We’ll be looking at the kitchens and other wet areas in my article today, “WHAT INTERIOR HOUSING PAINT GOES HERE AND HOW”. The most important rule is hygiene: Due to the amount of grease and moisture generated by showers, cooking and washing up, all surfaces must be easily cleaned. Are yours the same, recommended reading? It is important to keep the kitchen hygienic, but it must also be very cleanable.
The demand for finishes has slightly changed over the years in wet and kitchen areas. The most common interior paint used is low-sheen quality. For kitchens, satin acrylic is the best choice for removing grease and washing. It is not porous like low sheen. In fact, looking at a wall painted with satin gives the impression of a thick and smooth finish. It looks great and is easy to apply. It slides right off the roller.
Although I still use low-sheen paint in certain circumstances, such as when I am painting brand new homes for a builder because the specifications require it. If I was painting my bathroom, I’d choose the satin finish because I love hot showers.
It’s difficult to separate the walls with two types of paint when the kitchen is part of a living area. Use a low sheen in this case, it’s perfectly acceptable. Both are equally good, but satin has an edge.
In the modern home, there is also a move away from the clinical operating theatre kitchens. Beautiful stainless steel cabinets and doors with two-pack finishes are used instead. Also, curtains over the windows have replaced blinds. These materials are easy to clean and wash. It’s the same with the bathroom and laundry. They all have surfaces which are easy to clean. That’s why you should choose satin when painting your home. You won’t be sorry.
